130,000 Apps Now Available For The Windows Phone Platform

With the Mobile World Congress is full flow, Microsoft recently shared some impressive statistics regards its Windows Phone app repository — the Windows Phone Store now boasts over 130,000 apps ready to be downloaded.

The company detailed the numbers on the official Window Phone Developer blog:

“The Windows Phone Store has also experienced a significant increase in activity – the highest in our history – with a 75% increase in app downloads, a 91% increase in paid app revenue and eclipsing 1 billion transactions. We’re also seeing higher levels of engagement with the catalog (thanks to your great apps), with a steady increase to an average of 55 downloads per user.”

And that’s not even the impressive bit.

Redmond confirmed that its Windows Phone 8 SDK has exceeded 500,000 downloads since its launch nearly four months back. That pretty much confirms some very strong interest from app developers for the company’s newest mobile platform.

In fact, three months into the launch of Windows Phone 8, developer registrations were up by over 40,000 users.

Microsoft also announced exclusive special offers from three companies for its developers, including cloud storage provider Box which gives away 25GB of free storage space to registered Windows Phone developers.

All in all, these are some great statistics, and positive developments. And this is no doubt, largely helped by the positive acceptance of Windows Phone 8 based smartphones have received in several markets across the globe, and definitely bodes well not just for the mobile platform, but the company itself.

Now only if we can get some official numbers for Windows 8 in the near future.
