7 reasons why Apple should buy Research in Motion (RIM)

I think Apple should buy RIM. It makes a lot of sense and would be one of the most exciting moves in the business world this year (next to the Facebook IPO) Here are 7 reasons why I think this deal needs to happen.

RIM would be a cheap purchase

Estimates I have seen on the web for the cost of RIM start at 7 billion dollars. That’s cup of coffee money to Apple based on their market cap and cash in the bank right now.

Enterprise Credibility

The acquisition of RIM would immediately make Apple a credible player in the enterprise space. All the doubts about their capabilities in this space would be erased.

Corporate Clients

They would immediately get all of RIM’s business clients – many of whom love the Apple brand anyway.

Patents and Infrastructure

An acquisition would give Apple all the patents and substantial infrastructure that RIM has built up over the years.

So nobody else does

It would block their competitors from getting the company and all its (considerable) IP and infrastructure.

An Enterprise Gateway for the iPad

Now Apple would have so many new businesses to sell the iPad into.

A sexy business phone with a keyboard

In the business sector, this would be a killer. A hybrid of Apple’s usability with a  physical keyboard. A sleeker, sexier looking business device. Game over. I think this would be cool to see. It would suck for Microsoft but it would be cool to see. What do you think? Use the comments below…]]>
