Oh man, Acer and Windows, again. Try what it may the Taiwanese company just can’t seem to get excited by Microsoft’s latest and greatest. They seem to be alright with Chromebook, though.
The company’s president, Jim Wong, talking to Bloomberg was of the view that the release of Windows 8 in late October did not help the PC industry to bounce back. Reasons enough to say that the new OS is not yet successful, it seems:
“Windows 8 itself is still not successful. The whole market didn’t come back to growth after the Windows 8 launch, that’s a simple way to judge if it is successful or not.
You saw that all the marketing and promotions were not as broad as Windows 8, so to reach this success is encouraging.”
For better or for worse (worse, most probably) Jim Wong seems like one of those folks who believe success is something that is defined from the first day. A lot of things took their time to achieve triumph, in fact, most things do.
I am sure a few people considered the mouse as a failure when it was first released, thinking it will never be able to take a place alongside keyboards as far as computer input was concerned.
While a success story from day one that would have contributed to a recovery of the PC industry would have been welcome by all, but most analysts believe that things should only get better this year.
Still, one thing that Acer is electrified about it Google’s Chrome powered PC. According to him, Chromebook accounted for anywhere between 5 and 10 percent of Acer’s United States shipments since release in November.
Obviously, measuring success in percentages is one thing, but whatever floats one’s root beer.
Cant blame acer windows 8 is the worst operating system since vista
you re right it seems they are loosing it………..
I guess that is an opinion. Extremely uneducated as I believe it to be. I can see not liking the start button replacement. But to use that to call it the worst, is obviously flawed. I personally like the change on this point, but understand how people dont. For those who cant tolerate it, I would suggest 3rd party software to customize it. No big deal. Beyond this, Windows 8 is an highly upgraded version of Windows 7. With so many improvements under the hood you would be surprised. When I hear people like this, I wonder, has this person really tried it, or just out to defame it? Because as well as I know it, it is hard for me to see it being bad enough to hate, dislike parts, sure, hate, a highly exaggerated response.
Actually Chrome books are a good solution for Acer. Highly developed netbooks. I am sure the margins they can make on such a cheap solution are perfect for their market position in the bottom price bracket.
@6040401a6a58cd36b9b60bf8f698bf01:disqus uneducated im a computer technician so i wouldn’t call myself uneducated and besides i dont like how it runs on my computers i liked win 7 it ran well with even the oldest of my computers
Please stop. You’re making it worse, and I can’t catch my breath.
Sorry for the confusion, but I didnt call you uneducated, I called your opinion undeducated, as it showed a complete lack of actual product (windows 8) understanding. If you think Windows 7 runs well on old computers, see how much better Windows 8 fairs.
I wont hold any punches, You sir don’t know Sh!t. If you are a computer technician, I feel bad for the company you work for.
I bought a Windows 8 tablet made by Acer. I returned it within two weeks due to a few issues (mainly that it would not come out of sleep mode normally). The replacement model from Samsung (with the exact same specs as the Acer model) worked perfectly.
Perhaps Acer is having a quality control issue.
