Or, in other words, these display drivers are now in earnest testing. The Windows 11 22H2 release is shaping up nicely for launch later in the year, but pieces of its puzzle are already falling in place.
We very recently saw graphics card maker NVIDIA release its drivers with official support for this upcoming version of the operating system at the start of the month. Of course, those were meant for enterprise customers and professional users, with a consumer release destined for later down the road.
But it looks like that day has come.
Upcoming GPU drivers from vendors like AMD and NVIDIA are getting exposed sooner than expected.
AMD, for example, made available its prerelease drivers for Windows 11 version 22H2 towards the end of last week. Right on the tail of that, we got a leak of the NVIDIA GeForce drivers for this particular version of the OS before the week was out.
Both driver releases are based on the latest WDDM 3.1, short for Windows Display Driver Model.
On the AMD side of things, early testing has revealed that this new release is a boon for gamers, bringing impressive performance increases on games and titles running on OpenGL. This is big news, as the Radeon line of graphics processors has been lagging behind on this API technology.
Microsoft is offering the version 31.0.12000.20010 UWP driver, and the driver package also includes the version 22.05 OpenGL beta driver.
NVIDIA, on the other hand, is readying driver version 525.14, also as a beta release. This is a leak, mind you, so the official release with all the technical details is pending. But these drivers are very much welcome for users rocking this version of Windows 11, which itself recently hit the coveted RTM status.
Folks who have installed the drive have confirmed that this is a stable release, so if you can get your hands on them, by all means, do.
