The software titan has just announced in a press release that Amy Hood would officially become the next chief financial officer of Microsoft effective immediately.
Amy Hood was previously the chief financial officer of Microsoft’s Business division. She along with Tami Reller, the head of business and marketing strategy of the Windows division, were said to be in pole position according to reports.
But now it seems that Steve Ballmer has picked Hood, most likely for the reason that Reller is already a high-profile executive that is playing an important role in the Windows unit. It is quite possible that the software giant wanted to keep Reller in her current job, as it nears the release of Windows Blue.
Hood becomes the first woman CFO in Microsoft’s illustrious history.
Microsoft shared the news in a press release saying that Hood played a key role in the company’s acquisition of Skype in 2011 and Yammer in 2012. CEO Steve Ballmer noted:
“Amy brings the right talents and experiences to the role as we continue to strengthen our focus on devices and services.”
The new CFO said in a prepared statement:
“I’m excited to step into this role and look forward to working closely again with our investors and shareholders. Peter has built a world-class finance team, and I am set up well to continue the company’s strong discipline around costs and focus on driving shareholder value.”
Peter Klein is said to retire at the end of June, but in order to ensure a smooth transition, Microsoft has decided that Hood is to take charge of CFO duties immediately.
