App Watch: Batch Audio Converter

Batch Audio Converter, as the name clearly gives away, is an app for Windows 8 that offers the ability to convert audio files from one format to another right within the Metro UI.

The free app can handle a long list of formats and convert between Apple Lossless, AIFF, FLAC, OGG, WAV, MP3, M4A and WMA. Output formats are limited to AAC encoded, M4A, MP3 and WAV.

Here is the official description:

“Do you have a large music collection ripped using iTunes, or in a format such as FLAC, OGG AIFF, or Apple Lossless, and find that Windows is unable to play them? Batch Music Converter is designed to help you quickly convert your existing music collection into a format that is supported natively under Windows.”

Additionally, it offers ID3 tag support, and more impressively multi-core processor support to really speed up the conversion process. This ultimately depends on hardware configuration, of course.

There is a limit on the free version, however, as it can only convert up to 100 files at a time. This limit can be unlocked via in-app purchase. Batch Audio Converter supports all Windows 8 versions on the market, including x86, x64 and ARM.
