New! Check out our iPhone 5 Picture gallery Today was Apple’s live (long awaited) press conference where they were widely expected to show off the iPhone 5. Tim Cook took the stage and talked about the expansion of Apple stores across the globe. The Apple Stores welcomed 83 million visitors last year and are available in 13 countries. Interesting stat: The MacBook Air and Macbook Pro combined ranked #1 in the US in Notebook marketshare for the last 3 months. In July it was 27%. In the last quarter, they sold 17 million iPads for a total of 84 million units. Last year, the iPad had 62% market share and now they claim the number is at 68%. Tim Cook said that the “iPad accounts for 91% of all the web traffic from tablets. I don’t know what these other tablets are doing.” “They must be in warehouses or on store shelves, or maybe in someone’s drawer.” Contrasting the iPad corporate use with the nonexistent (so far) PC tablet market, he said “Almost all of the Fortune 500 (94%) are testing or deploying iPads. And they’re investing in custom apps. This is something none of them do on the PC.” Talking about application use, he had the following stats:
- App Store has over 700k apps.
- 250k of those apps are tailored for the iPad.
- 90% of the apps in that 700k are downloaded every month.
- The average customer uses over 100 apps.
- Made entirely of glass and aluminium.
- 18% thinner than iPhone 4s at 7.6mm
- 20% lighter than the 4S at 112 grams
- Retina display, 326 PPI
- 4 inch display
- 16:9 aspect ratio
- 1136 x 640 screen resolution
Bullsh*t – Now they are making themselves look foolish, are they saying the 4 and 4S didn’t fit in the hand? The phone has a lot of wireless modes – HSPA+, DC-HSDPA and LTE. There’s now a single chip for voice and data, and a single radio chip. It also has new Wi-Fi, 2.4ghz and 5ghz on 802.11n. The Apple A6 chip is included as well. Twice as fast as the A5 and 22% smaller. The graphics do look amazing. [caption id="attachment_24726" align="alignnone" width="640"] iPhone 5 Graphics[/caption] Battery life exceeds that of the 4s.
