Asus Unleashes Transformer Book Trio In Japan And Europe

Makes one wonder whether we will ever see 4-in-1 devices! For now, though we will have to make do with 3-in-1 solutions. While many hardware makers have unleashed convertible and hybrid 2-in-1 devices, a few are going beyond.

Asus is one such hardware maker, and the company has just announced that its 3-in-1 hybrid Transformer Book Trio will hit store shelves in Japan on November 2.

The innovative device will also make its way to Europe very soon.

The Trio houses some very powerful hardware inside, but its biggest selling point is the fact that it can be used in three different styles. Take away the keyboard and the device plays the role of a standalone and full featured Android tablet.

But when you are ready for do some serious stuff on the device, a simple connect of the keyboard turns the Transformer Book Trio into a Windows 8 laptop. To top things off, the same keyboard can be attached to an external monitor, thereby allowing the device to function as a bona fide desktop.

Onto the hardware side of things, then, and the Trio comes with an 11.6-inch screen with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels.

When used in tablet mode, an Intel Atom Clover Trail+ processor with 2GB of memory provides the power. Users also get up to 64GB of storage, a microSD card slot, and two cameras to go with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.

In laptop mode, however, Asus has managed to slide in an Intel Haswell processor and paired it with 4GB of RAM in the keyboard section. 1TB of storage provides more than enough room. WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity comes standard with USB, audio and video ports.

The Trio weighs 680 grams as purely a tablet — but as a PC it weighs 1.8 kg (or 4 pounds, if you will). Starting price for this deluxe device in Europe is $1,240, and it should hit more countries in the coming weeks and months.
