Don’t Expect A New Surface Book Until 2018

Mary Jo Foley has spoken! With each passing month, the Surface Book keeps getting long in the tooth, as far as its hardware is concerned. But it appears that Microsoft is in no hurry to launch a successor.

The company is preparing for a couple of events next month.

One of which is Future Decoded in London, where Panos Panay is supposed to unveil one or two hardware devices. Obviously, with the Surface head attending and holding a keynote at this high-profile event, there is speculation that the company was preparing updates for its Surface devices.

Which many believed would be here as early as October 31.

Unfortunately, regular Microsoft watcher Mary Jo Foley has chimed in, saying that a new Book is not coming until early 2018. A new Surface Hub is also tracking for the start of next year, meaning no immediate arrivals.

Which is disappointing to an extent, because the original Surface Book launched with the 6th generation Intel Skylake processors, and will be two years old next month.

The business oriented Surface Hub, meanwhile, is powered by the 4th generation Intel Haswell chips.

There is talk, however, that we may see the promised cellular version of the Surface Pro at this event, which Microsoft actually announced this past May at an event in Shanghai. Judging by how things have shaped up, this seems like the more likely candidate to launch next month.

We are bound to learn more next month.

In the meantime, if you were looking to get your hands on a new Surface Book model, it looks like you will have to wait a little longer. Five odd months be my guess.
