Exclusive – Microsoft overwhelmed by Microsoft Surface response, sold 150,000 units in the first hour

I just got off the phone with a Microsoft employee at the central Microsoft Store number.

She said that they have been “overwhelmed by the demand” for the Microsoft Surface Pro.

Her quote “We sold 150,000 units in the first hour”. When I asked about the breakout of that number (64GB vs 128GB), she seemed unsure.

I proceeded to ask a few more probing questions and she seemed to realize she may have said too much.

150,000 units in an hour and she was talking about the Microsoft online store.

Even if that number is true for both models (64GB and 128GB), it means that Microsoft may have severely underestimated the consumer demand for this device.

Good news for Redmond even though consumers may have spent their money elsewhere this weekend.

Funny what people will tell you if you ask nicely. 🙂

More to come…

  • and u said it was vaporware. tsk tsk tsk. when will u learn man!! besides i want one but can’t afford it. this is an ultrabook but is outselling total ultrabook sales if this rate were to be kept. think bout it: 150,000 1st hour. 2nd hour might drop to 125,000 3rd 100,000 4th stays steady 80,000. who knows all speculation right? still at that rate it is 375,000 in 3 hours which is AMAZING!!

  • People didn’t buy them because they were good, they bought them cause they looked good. 🙂
