Not the news you want to start the week with! The official Facebook app is nowhere to be found on the Microsoft Store, not via search, or via a direct link to the listing.

It’s kaput!

And while initial understanding was that this change could be temporary, with the company readying to launch a new version, it has been confirmed by the developer that a new version is not on the way. Not now, not anytime soon.

It simply removed the Facebook desktop app as of February 28.

A warning or official statement would have been so good here, but there you have it.

The app continues to work now, and will do so for the foreseeable future, as long as you already have it. But if not, then it is no longer possible to grab it from the Microsoft Store.

Facebook actually now recommends users to use the browser for the best experience on Windows. That is what most people do so anyway. And evidently, is the reason why the company removed its official client in the first place.

That said, it’s not like Facebook is abandoning Windows 10 completely. Both Messenger and Instagram are available. In fact, Instagram was just added to the Store as a PWA. No chance right now of the Facebook app making an appearance in this fashion, however.

Just another Monday, eh?
