GeForce NOW unleashes 1440p 120 FPS upgrade for Edge

August 19, 2022

The next level! Subscribers of the GeForce NOW game streaming service are in for a big upgrade today, as the service has added in support for 1440p resolution with 120 FPS gaming.

Only on Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome.

And only for those with the more expensive RTX 3080 memberships.

But you get what you pay for!

The upgrade features support for the crispier 1440p QHD resolution at 120 frames per second right in your web browser. As you can imagine, this results in a much higher rendering fidelity with vastly improved pixel density that you get on a regular 1080p display.

This makes for a smoother visual experience overall.

NVIDIA, announcing the upgrade:

It also offered more detail on these capabilities in an official blog post right about here.

As stated, the upgrade will be limited to Edge and Chrome browsers for now. This, even though the third most popular choice, Mozilla Firefox, recently received 120Hz support in version 103. Support for it could potentially follow suit.

Other Chromium based web browser could work too when they add support for this higher refresh rate.

On the bright side, this will no longer require an app. You can simply open the Edge or Chrome browser on a PC, go to, and jump right in.

GeForce NOW Streaming Quality

You will need to select the new resolution and higher refresh rate from the GeForce NOW Settings menu by selecting the Custom option. NVIDIA says that this premium setting will consume roughly 19 GB of data per hour.

Then again, no one ever said that luxury comes cheap!
