Very well done.
There was a line of almost 30 people there (and growing) and one of the sales people there told me they had been open since 8:30am because of demand.
Anyway, after chatting with the salespeople, a Microsoft PR manager was kind enough to get me out of the line, give me a tour of the kiosk and let me grab my tablet quickly.
Shout out to Microsoft PR for the pleasant experience.
The sales people were extremely pumped up and knowledgeable and seemed ready to show off the device as well.
They were coming down the line letting people hold, touch and use the devices.
Unfortunately, there was a technical delay with their (POS) Point Of Sale system so there was a slight delay but the line wasn’t that long and they seemed to have enough devices for everyone.
Here it is, my Surface RT 32GB with the type cover.

I’ll talk first impressions in a sec and do a full review this weekend.
Here are more photos from my time at the Glendale Galleria. Shouts out to Levi and Douglas for all their help!
Once again, you can order your Microsoft Surface tablet here.

Dude the pictures look AWESOME.
I cant wait for the review!
It’s coming man.
This weekend hopefully…
🙂
Glad you liked the surface, was sort of proud to be a part of getting this completed with the beta testing and the suggestions on how to make it better that was available to the testers. Now to be honest, if you want to run windows programs on this, you really should have waited till after Jan 1 2013 as the RT version you have is going to give you a headache due to the fact this is essentially made for business and not personal use. The personal version (like the iPad) will be out after jan 1 2013. You can get up to 64GB in SSHD space and they are working on making it available so you can actually swap out the SSHD and replace it with a 500GB SSHD. Now no matter how you look at it, thats just cool as heck. And when they get this done, iPad had better watch their six as MS is going frag them.
I think you have this backwards. This one runs on an Arm processor and is a reduced functionality version of Windows 8. The Surface that comes out in January will have an Intel Core processor, and will run Windows 8 Professional. Correct my if I’m wrong, but I don’t think I am.
Exactly.
I have it correct as I get my info directly from the Redmond MS Campus where I do my MS beta reporting to. The Surface pad is only set to run the RT version of Windows 8. That version is strictly for business and also has cloud abilities. The Windows (reg) that comes out on the pads after Jan 1st will be able to be used for personal use. Now that is not to say that both cannot be used for personal use, just the RT version is going to make it harder to do so. And the version of the Windows 8 that will be on the pad after Jan is a “Windows 8 home edition” type of thing as the pro version takes up well over 20GB with all their bells and tweets, leaving very little space for anything else. The more compact “home” version will only take up about 6GB in size. Even so I am eagerly awaiting for MS to tell us how and if this can have the SSHD swapped out for a larger SSHD. I am being told that it can but I want to wait and see for sure. Now if this can have the SSHD swapped out for say a 500GB SSHD, then you are going to see these all over airports and docks and so on as this will be much easier to take with you on travels and vacations. Add in the fact that this is wireless and blutooth compliant, and this may be the computer of the future.
All I know is if MS gets all the add ons they want for this, mac’s iPad is dead meat!
Thanks for the comments.
You meant it the other way right.. seems like this is made for personal use?
We’ll see if I keep this one but so far WOW.
FANTASTIC.
Can I run a windows app like Sony Vegas on a Surface? I know you can’t on an RT system.
The Surface runs WindowsRT, doesn’t it?
Not on RT but on the Windows 8 tablets coming soon…
