July AdDuplex Data Confirms The Rise And Rise Of The Nokia Lumia 520

The Windows Phone landscape continues to project a rather interesting image. The July 2013 data from advertising network AdDuplex shows that low end devices are the way forward for Microsoft’s mobile platform, and how!

The Nokia Lumia 520 is the new undisputed king of the Windows Phone world.

The affordable handset (with its US counterpart, the Lumia 521) has overtaken the Nokia Lumia 920 and its rise to fame has been nothing short of spectacular. The device has been on the market for a very short period of time, yet is now the king of the hill with a 13.3 percent of the WP market share.

In fact, the data from June showed that the 520 was the fifth most popular Windows Phone device back then. But after increasing its retail availability in these past few weeks — helped no doubt by its amazing price — the smartphone is now the most popular Windows Phone device worldwide.

This month’s batch of statistics includes several other charts, one of which shows that a notable number of newly installed apps are now finding their home on Nokia’s most affordable Windows Phone.

What this means is that application developers will now have to accommodate their apps on lower end devices like the Lumia 520.

This great success of the 520 has also translated into other areas. Windows Phone 8, for instance, is now running on 61 percent of all Windows Phone devices out in the wild, a significant increase.

Speaking of the former king, the Nokia Lumia 920 is now the number two worldwide, and now accounts for 11.8 percent of total devices. Nokia itself is making 85.4 percent of Windows Phone 8 devices, with HTC a distant second.

Both Samsung and Huawei have an almost trivial share of the pie, with 2 and 1.1 percent respectively.
