OK, the CES 2012 keynote by Steve Ballmer is over and the summary is in progress.
Most of you may not remember this, but in January of 2011, we had reported the rumor that Microsoft was developing a version of the Kinect for home use.
Now, there is some immediate news.
Kinect for Windows is coming on February 1st 2012.

The product description:
This Kinect Sensor for Windows has a shortened USB cable to ensure reliability across a broad range of computers and includes a small dongle to improve coexistence with other USB peripherals. The new firmware enables the depth camera to see objects as close as 50 centimeters in front of the device without losing accuracy or precision, with graceful degradation down to 40 centimeters. “Near Mode” will enable a whole new class of “close up” applications, beyond the living room scenarios for Kinect for Xbox 360.
The Kinect for Windows sensor unit is intended to be used with the following:
-Kinect for Windows Commercial SDK
-An application that was developed using the Kinect for Windows Commercial SDK and associated runtime software.Note: The senor unit does not ship with any software, and will only operate with an application developed for Kinect for Windows.

-Dual-core 2.66-GHz or faster processor
-Dedicated USB 2.0 bus

I see they have begun the computer interfacing with kinect now i wait to see what other companies release to compete with this model
