An overwhelming portion of the success of the Windows Phone platform can be attributed to two companies, Microsoft and Nokia. While there are other hardware vendors in the mix, not to mention app developers, but it has been all Nokia when it comes to devices.
Handset makers like HTC, Samsung and Huawei have not exactly pushed things into high gear.
Nevertheless, information continues to leak out regarding what other companies are planning for the Windows Phone platform. Companies like LG and Acer are rumored to make a return to the party, while a number of second tier hardware makers are expected to join it soon.
Now it appears that Lenovo may pull the trigger on their first Windows Phone 8 smartphone later this year. Chinese website WPDang is reporting, citing unnamed sources, that the company will release a high end Windows Phone 8 device in the second half of 2013.
How high end, you ask? How does a 1080p resolution, quad-core device sound?
The report claims that the phone will either have a 4.7 inch of 5 inch display, and judging by how things are shaping up, it should be the GDR3 updated to the platform that adds support for quad-core processors and 1080p displays.
As of right now, Microsoft has not yet confirmed that Lenovo has been added to the list of its official Windows Phone hardware makers. But considering how strong a relationship it enjoys with Lenovo on the Windows PC front, it is reasonable to expect a new one forming on the Windows Phone front too.
