Although we still don’t have an iota of confirmation from Redmond on this, a UK retailer has gone ahead and opened preorders for the LTE Surface Pro, a new variant of the tablet that looks set for arrival soon.
Microsoft promised a fall launch for this cellular enabled model of the Surface Pro.
At an event in Shanghai in May.
And while a preorder like this takes the wind out of the Future Decoded event that the company has scheduled for October 31 in London, the fact that a variant like this was coming has not exactly been the biggest of secrets.
Solid rumors have hinted that this was set to be announced in London next month.
Anyway, getting back to the preorder listings, the estimated shipping date of this is December, which is very much disappointing. Three months is an awful lot of time for people to wait, people that have actually been looking forward to get their hands on such a device for a long time.
Nevertheless, this at least ends any speculation that the LTE variant of the tablet will be ARM based.
And that’s because both the models listed are powered by an Intel Core i5 processor, with chances of an Core i7 model currently unknown. Even if that one is coming, it probably may only launch later on, maybe next year.
As for prices, the lower-end model costs £944.00, while the more powerful one will cost you £1,169.00. You get 4GB RAM and a 128GB SSD on the first variant, and 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD on more powerful on.
Prices scale up to £1,132.80 and £1,402.80 respectively, with VAT included.
We’ll probably have an official announcement from Microsoft for these devices at Future Decoded next month, along with availability and pricing details. Hopefully, the company also provides a complete overview of all Surface Pro models that are getting LTE capabilities.
