Lumia 1820 Said To Be Microsoft’s First Windows Phone 8.1 Handset

There is a thing, a thing such as looking ahead. And then there is something that is looking way ahead. While both Microsoft and Nokia are busy unveiling new hardware devices, we just may have some pointers on what is in store for the somewhat distant future.

Sure, the Microsoft Nokia deal is not exactly finalized now. Nokia shareholders are expected to give their approval in just a few weeks now, while the buyout itself will take a few months to complete.

But most expect Nokia’s devices and services unit to become part of the Redmond Empire in 2014.

Still, few details have come our way about the plans following the acquisition — until now. A new rumor is making the rounds suggesting that Microsoft will launch its first Windows Phone 8.1 powered handset next year, as the Lumia 1820.

This information is coming from Nawzil8, the same source that the Nokia Camera app would be coming to all Windows Phone 8 devices in the very near future. Here is the tweet:

“Lumia 1820 will be Microsoft’s first phone and my next phone in 2014.”

No other details have been provided, expect for the fact that the Lumia 1820 will hit the store shelves next year. But one thing is for sure, the stakes are getting higher, just as the model numbers are.

Take this with a grain of salt for now, but we probably will hear more on this in the coming months.
