Mail App Notifications Not Working On Windows 8.1 Preview

The built in Mail app in Windows 8.1 is one of the last things one would expect to cause problems for users, but one of the newer bugs that has been reported confirms some issues with the Mail app.

The app itself is one of the many that received a new round of improvements and enhancements as part of the codename Blue update cycle, but it seems some users are experiencing problems with it on Windows RT 8.1.

According to ta post on the company’s official support forums, notifications are no longer available for the Mail app after deploying the public preview version of the Windows RT 8.1 upgrade. And reinstalling does not seem to help, either.

One of the affected users explained the issue:

“Ever since I installed Windows 8.1 RT Preview to my Surface, the Mail App’s push notifications have stopped working. I’ve tried everything I could think of. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, I’ve triple-checked the permissions to make sure the app is allowed to push notifications, but even with the permission on, nothing.”

Microsoft will most look into the issue soon — the Mail app is one of the most important features of its Windows 8.1 platform, after all. Expect the company to fix this and other reported issues by next month.

The RTM version of Windows 8.1 is expected to go live sometime in August.
