Major Update For Skype On Windows 10 Incoming

Both the PC and mobile versions of the Skype app on Windows 10 are about to receive a major refresh, one that brings along a nice little array of new additions to the application.

Microsoft is yet to detail them, but others have spotted this upcoming version.

The update is currently rolling out to those in the Release Preview ring of the program, which is to say users that have been testing the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. This arrives after weeks of testing by Insiders in the Skip Ahead channel.

Obviously, no official changelog has been posted just yet, but the source has noticed a number of changes, including:

  • Many more reactions added, for example, new icicle icon, outside seating, middle finger, and many others
  • It’s now possible to cancel Skype conversations (before it was only possible to clear normal messages and hide Skype messages)
  • New welcome screen
  • You can no longer hide conversations
  • You can no longer add groups to your favorites
  • Corrections and general improvements

Even the version bump is major, with the app going from 11.19.856.0 to 12.4.676.0.

All in all, looks like the Skype team has worked on adding several new features and polish to the app on Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile. These welcome changes arrive just in time for the launch of the Fall Creators Update, too, which is all set to go live on October 17.

This new update should be available to everyone in the coming few weeks.
