Chalk another one up. Malwarebytes users have been reporting performance issues and crashes when version 4.1 of the antivirus program is installed on systems running Windows 10 May 2020 Update.
These issues range from general slowness to random freezes, video stuttering, even those scary blue screen of death (BSOD) crashes. But the most prominent problem is that of the OS becoming unresponsive.
While not everyone running Windows 10 version 2004 is affected, but the company’s official forum is filed with posts like this, this, this, and this.
By the same token, some users report that they were able to fix these issues by disabling the Ransomware Protection feature in Malwarebytes. Which goes to suggest that the problem might be rather confined.
To take care of this pesky little problem, Malwarebytes released a beta version of their antivirus solution in early June. Version 4.1.1.71 appears to resolve this issue.
If you are using Malwarebytes, then you can install this beta version by going to Settings > General and enabling the Beta updates settings in the program.
Once this setting is enabled, simply check for updates, and install the latest version and its components package to resolve these performance hiccups on your system.
And if the problems are severe, then you can always uninstall Malwarebytes temporarily, until the company actually rolls out a fix.
