The modern version of Media Player is one of the many default apps in Windows 11 that received an upgrade. While the program is much better, it continues to improve.

Microsoft has reserved some additional refinements to the built-in media player in its new operating system for Insiders to test right now. These will eventually be rolled out to production devices.

Redmond announced these enhancements alongside the launch of the latest preview build.

The new version of the Media Player you are looking for is 11.2205, and it includes several improvements that enhance the media playback experience.

Media Player Update

For starters, we finally have the ability to sort songs and albums in the collection by date added. This, the company says, was one of the most requested of features ever since the modern version of Media Player went live earlier this year.

Additionally, the program is getting improvements for CD playback support in this version. And the best bit is that unlike some features that are to be gradually rolled out for Insiders to test, this one is available to all Insiders regardless of the channel they are enrolled in.

Microsoft also says that it has made upgrades to better adapt to theme changes and to the media content drag-and-drop experience.

For the time being, all these new additions are available for Insiders to take for a spin, with no ETA on when these changes will go live for all users. However, given the fact that the release is not tied to an operating system update, we should have these features available as soon as the testing is complete.
