Microsoft announce that Surface Pro is coming

Surface web page with details of the long awaited Surface Pro. While no exact date has been given, the Surface Pro is apparently going to start at $899. You can see the specs below (click to enlarge) [caption id="attachment_31566" align="alignnone" width="640"]Surface Specifications Surface Specifications[/caption] You can also download the specs from here. Now, let’s talk shop. It looks like it starts at $900 dollars (without a keyboard). That gets you the 64 Gig option. So I’m guessing that approx $1200 to $1500 will get you the 128 Gig model. It comes with a Pen input and pen. The CPU is pretty decent – a 3rd Gen Intel Core i5 Processor with Intel HD Graphics 4000. The display is a ClearType Full HD Display at 1920×1080 pixels. They have the warning in there

“*System software uses significant storage space. Available storage is subject to change based on system software updates and apps usage.”
And of course, the big deal is here:
Runs current Windows 7 desktop applications and integrates with your existing enterprise management infrastructure. Use the programs and the apps available in the Windows Store.
This is going to be interesting to see. Note: It doesn’t seem like any covers are included (Touch or Type). So that adds between $120 to $160 to the price of the unit. So the base model will run you a minimum of about $1100 with keyboard and taxes included. It looks like a STRONG enterprise play and may catch fire among businesses who have been looking for a tablet. Consumers however…. Seems to me that it’s a STEEP hurdle to climb to ask a civilian to pay $1100 for a tablet (even with a keyboard). However if the Surface Pro can really show a lot of value and the screen is perceived as wide enough, they can pick up some Apple MacBook Pro shoppers. I’ll get one to review on the site. Stay tuned… Update The Microsoft Blog has clarified pricing:
Today, I want to share a bit more detail about the growing Surface family of products and Surface with Windows 8 Pro, specifically around pricing. In January, Surface with Windows 8 Pro will be available in two versions and pricing will start at $899: · 64GB standalone version at $899 · 128GB standalone version at $999
