Microsoft Executive Hints At Surface Phone

Even though Microsoft has been quite cryptic about the Surface Phone as a whole, we do occasionally get comments from company officials, as well as the odd patent detail that reveal what’s cooking.

So much so that there is now reason to think that a new device is actually on its way.

Whether it has what it takes to rescue Microsoft’s collapsing mobile operating system is a question for another day, but there are enough pointers to suggest that the company is taking a unique route for this new type of device, and betting for the new form factor.

A new mobile form factor.

And this is what Anant Maheshwari, President for Microsoft India, explained in a recent new interview where he revealed that both his company and other OEMs will have a lot of work to do to make these types of devices a success.

“I would say in the form-factors we are currently really focused on, clearly the Surface line of products which has Surface Hub, the Surface Studio, the Surface Book and the Surface Pros, we have a lot of capabilities across those devices, and we are continuing the focus on those form-factors.

As far as mobiles are concerned, we are working with all the major OEMs and OS players to create new applications and experiences. We want people to be able to access all Microsoft apps and services on the mobile form factor also.”

The last part is enough to get everyone’s hopes high, everyone who has been waiting for a Surface Phone all these years.

It’s a titanic endeavor, but a Surface Phone powered by Windows 10 ARM is something that is sure to make other people take notice. More so if it comes with an innovative form factor like a foldable dual display, as recent rumors have been hinting.
