Microsoft, Once Again, Posts Record First Quarter Results

Microsoft released its quarterly earnings report today, and the numbers are good! The firm reported growth in several areas for the second quarter of its 2019 fiscal year.

Or, in other words, the fourth quarter of the 2018 calendar year.

The firm reported $32.5 billion in revenue, an increase of 12% year-over-year.

That’s about as good as it has ever been for the Seattle based technology company from the same quarter in the previous fiscal year. Operating income grew a solid 18% to hit $10.3 billion, with net income jumping thusly to $8.4 billion.

Q1 2019 results had revenue soar to $29.1 billion for the company.

Microsoft Q2 2019 Earnings

Unsurprisingly, the cloud business continues to bring home the bacon for Redmond, with Azure alone posting an increase of no less than 76% versus the same quarter a year before.

Server products and cloud services also jumped 24%, with Intelligent Cloud reaching $9.4 billion.

On the Windows side of things, the operating platform posted modest numbers in this first quarter. Windows OEM revenue declined by 5%, while Windows Commercial products and cloud services revenue jumped 13%.

Surface.

The Microsoft Surface business is also growing stronger, picking up pace by 39%. This is mostly thanks to the debut of new models like the Surface Laptop 2 and the Surface Pro 6.

Gaming also performed very well during the quarter, witnessing an increase of 8% during the quarter. Xbox software and services revenue alone recorded a growth of 31%, with the company previously noting that third-party title strength was the main driver.

Not to be outdone, LinkedIn also put up some good numbers. The business-oriented social network posted a revenue increase of 29% during the quarter.

Overall, not a bad place to be in.
