Microsoft Starts Inviting Users To Test Drive The Preview Build Of Windows 8.1

Redmond is all geared up for the public launch of Windows 8.1 Preview and eager users are eying the Windows Store to receive the notification that lets user download the release.

But apparently the software titan is now also inviting select developers using Microsoft Connect to test drive Windows 8.1 Preview on June 26.

The notification goes something like this:

“Please remember to back up your data prior to upgrading your systems. As with any Preview software, this is not the final version of the software. You will not be able to perform a full upgrade from Windows 8.1 Preview to Windows 8.1 RTM (the final release). You will however be able to migrate all your data to Windows 8.1 RTM.”

The software titan has also confirmed the update policy in a new notification sent on Microsoft Connect to select developers picked to test drive the upcoming operating system, which states that users who install the preview version would all their apps when they make the switch to the RTM version.

Windows 8.1 Preview is set to make its public debut at BUILD next week.

The RTM build, on the other hand, is widely expected to arrive in August, while general availability of the final version is slated for October, if insider sources are to be believed.
