Microsoft held its annual hardware event in New York on October 2, showcasing its latest hardware products including the Surface Pro 6, Surface Laptop 2, Surface Studio 2 and Surface Headphones.
The Windows 10 October 2018 Update also shared the spotlight at the event.
On the hardware side of things, we have confirmation that not have the underlying circuitry of these devices, but they also come in black — a throwback to the original launch of the Surface line back in the good old days of 2012.
Before we get to the details, here are the videos that Redmond rolled out for these new machines:
The Surface Pro 6 now starts at $899, lowing the price of the base model by $100. Better yet, this is the Core i5 model, as the Core m3 model have been phased out.
Moving on, the Surface Laptop 2 also picked up new internals, though there aren’t any revolutionary changes to the design or even specifications of the device. It still is a stylish, sleek and expensive creation, with the base model with 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD starting at $999.
Some may say that the Surface Studio 2 is a low altitude effort from Microsoft, as even after being refreshed after 2 years, this all-in-one PC still does not house the latest Intel or NVIDIA chips.
But there is a definite reason for that — thermals.
Microsoft has made improvements to the CPU and GPU in this AIO device, while also enhancing the display using a new LCD technology that is 38% brighter and offers 22% more contrast. It starts at $3499, offering an option of a 7th generation Core i7 chip with GeForce GTX 1070 graphics.
Redmond also had a surprise up its proverbial sleeve, in the form of the Surface Headphones, a set of noise-cancelling cans that is aimed not just at casual users, but people in workplaces or on the go.
They offer spectacular quality and 13 levels of ambient noise control, and can activate Cortana with voice, which comes built in. The headphones run for $350.
Overall, this was a pretty good day for fans of Microsoft hardware, a lot to like, a fair bit for everyone.
