Microsoft Unveils New OneDrive Improvements

Microsoft SharePoint Conference North America is in full flow today, and the software titan has made some big announcements. OneDrive got a look at the event as well, and a very good look at that.

Redmond detailed them in a post here, confirming that these additions cover both personal and business use scenarios, and will be rolling out to users in the coming months.

Following is a rundown of some of the big new enhancements.

First up, is the OneDrive mobile app, which is getting a new placement for the Scan button — it is now front and center on the main app page.

Along with that, it is also possible now to enable automatic photo upload in OneDrive for Business accounts. This is something that was curiously missing, but nice to see the software titan finally managed to include this feature.

In addition to that, the company has made significant improvements to file sharing on the cloud service.

Users will now be able to password protect links to OneDrive files to prevent unwanted access. Plus, when they share a view-only link to a file, they will also now have the option to block the download of the said file.

Other improvements are primarily focused on business users, ranging from customization of sharing links for companies to the ability to move known folders from a local computer to OneDrive.

Microsoft said that it has been listening to user feedback through its UserVoice page, and most of these new features were developed based on public demand.

Which is good, because OneDrive is an integral part of Windows 10 and the Microsoft ecosystem overall, for many. The more improvements for this cloud storage service, the better.
