Microsoft Wins The Windows 8 Live Tiles Lawsuit

filed a complaint in the United States District Court of Maine, back in 2012, alleging that Microsoft had violated one of its patents by implementing live tiles in Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. The filing claimed that Microsoft was infringing on four of its patents by making, using, selling and offering to sell devices and software products covered by these patents. Last we heard, a court date was set for lawsuit, with SurfCast asking for an undisclosed sum of damages. Anyway, some progress on this front, with the confirmation that Microsoft were found not to be infringing, and the 52 claims that were made have been dismissed. In other words, the company will not get any payment from Redmond for the use of Live Tiles. This also means that Live Tiles are here to stay. All’s well that ends well, right?]]>
