More Details Emerge About Windows Phone Blue

While the past few weeks have seen several Windows Blue details float up, things have been quite slow on the Windows Phone Blue front. The latest is that development is slowly underway on this new update over at Microsoft.

The first details about Windows Blue popped up a few months back, and since then various sources have hinted that Blue is supposedly a company-wide initiative at Microsoft, instead of a focus on any specific product.

Microsoft watcher Mary Jo Foley shared some insights on Windows Phone Blue over at ZDNet and from the information she has gathered, Windows Phone Blue is said to help unify the app developer model that is utilized by Windows 8, Windows RT, and Windows Phone:

“Windows Phone Blue is the Windows Phone OS update designed to bring the Windows 8, Windows RT and Windows Phone 8 app models and developer platforms more into sync. Supposedly the Windows Blue update includes new programming interfaces, kernel updates and some user interface enhancements (though nothing too major on the UI front, I’ve heard).”

So essentially, while the underlying code is said to get some treatment, the current user interface that almost all new Microsoft platforms deploy will remain. Redmond probably spent so much time polishing up the look and feel of the Metro UI, that some stuff under the hood was ignored.

The Blue initiative may just be what the doctor ordered to not only streamline the company’s products and services with the new interface, but also make them more efficient.

Of course, any other details remain scarce, but we should hear more on this as it develops.
