New DirectX 12 Features In Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

Lifting the veil! Microsoft has finally provided a lot more details on the bunch of new DirectX 12 features that are have been released as part of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.

This new version of the operating system is flying off servers right now, having recently launched.

And although the software titan highlighted some of these new additions for game developers not too long ago, it provided more details on these improvements in a post on the Building Apps blog. These new enhancements make development easier and faster for developers.

Helping them craft games that run faster, offer better graphics, and allow for easier debugging.

Let’s start with the latter first.

Microsoft explains how debugging a game is different from debugging standard programs. There is something called a CPU and GPU divide, and these new tools help developer check their data when things go bad and the data from the GPU is lost — known as Device Removed Errors.

Developers now also have access to improved debugging data, whereby the company provides them with more access to resource memory, and helping to point out the exact place where an error occurs.

And finally, there are now improved debugging commands, where whenever a crash occurs, a developer can use a tool to create markers that record which commands sent from a CPU have already been executed, and which are in the process.

This basically means that gamers now have more direct ways of informing developers about the root cause of issues with a game or an app — and this hopefully leads to better creations all round.
