New Firmware Updates For Surface Tablets Bring Several Improvements

Redmond has rolled out a new firmware update for its Surface slates to go with this month’s Patch Tuesday updates. And it seems the tablets are in for some notable improvements.

The updates are said to improve the overall performance of the both the Surface RT and Surface Pro.

First up is the Surface RT, and as the change log on the Surface RT update history page indicates, the new release brings a UEFI firmware update that enhances the speaker volume on the Surface RT. It also offers some general system stability improvements.

Also included is a new driver pack that will work with the UEFI firmware update.

The Surface Pro on the other hand incudes some improvements for the WiFi connectivity (and stability), and this is an issue that has plagued some Surface Pro tablets since launch. Microsoft has not provided any specific details, but this is in line with the company’s efforts to improve the wireless connectivity.

Microsoft also improved the WiFi connectivity of the Surface Pro last month.

The update history page for the Surface Pro also details the enhancements made to the PXE boot feature found in the UEFI firmware. This is only activated when using the Ethernet adapter for the Surface Pro as UEFI integration is needed to implement PXE boot.

Last (but surely not the least), the technology titan explained that the Trackpad settings driver had been improved for the Surface Type Cover, and it now provides Japanese users with support for the application.

As is usually the case, the updates are being rolled out via the built-in Windows update option. Make sure you fully charge the battery of your device before you apply these latest improvements.
