Nokia Begins Worldwide Deployment Of The Amber Update

A few hours back Finish telecom giant official announced that it has started to roll out its Windows Phone 8 GDR2 (codename Amber) update to Lumia users around the world.

The General Distribution Release 2 of Microsoft’s mobile platform comes with a nice set of enhancements for all compatible devices.

Along with the features that Redmond has packed inside this new version of its mobile operating system (FM radio support, Xbox Music enhancements and updated Internet Explorer), Nokia has also included a bunch of exclusive novelties like Glance Screen and camera improvements.

In a new blog post, Nokia explains:

“The update brings significantly improved algorithms that offer better noise reduction, color reproduction, exposure control and autofocus to every phone across the Lumia range.”

Lumia 920 users, for example, can now enjoy enhanced controls to adjust the ISO settings of the camera, meaning the handset would benefit from even better low light performance.

Perhaps the most important new addition in this update is the arrival of Nokia’s Smart Camera application to more handsets. The app made its debut on the Nokia Lumia 925.

Owners of Lumia 920, 925 and 928 smartphones get an even better deal — the Nokia Pro Camera app that launched with the recently released Nokia Lumia 1020. This powerful app is now available for their handsets, along with Nokia Video Trimmer and Nokia Video Upload applications.

Other enhancements in the Nokia Amber update include the above mentioned Glance Screen that shows a clock when the phone is inactive and a battery level indicator when the phone is set to silence.

And last but not least, this new platform release also brings the flip to silence feature and double-tap to wake, along with a Storage Check option to free up space on the device. Updates to the Nokia HERE apps also make the cut.

The company says that the Amber update will being rolling out to various Windows Phone 8 Nokia Lumia handsets soon. Exact delivery times will vary by region, phone an operator, but users can check the availability of the update by going to Settings > Phone Update on their devices.
