announced this next generation handset on its official blog, revealing that the device will be available for purchase beginning July for €99 (which is $135). The dual SIM version will be out initially, while the single SIM variant will follow. In the words of Timo Toikkanen, head of mobile phones, Microsoft Devices Group:
“The Nokia X family is going from strength to strength, with the Nokia X smartphone achieving top-selling status in Pakistan, Russia, Kenya and Nigeria, while earning the third-best-selling smartphone spot in India. The Nokia X2 elevates the Nokia X experience with a stellar new design, ease of use and new Microsoft experiences. We’re proud to continue to bring smartphone innovation to lower and lower price points.”Here is a video showcase: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ri7qNQc5Q08 So what do you get in terms of hardware? The main highlight is the slightly improved 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor that is paired with 1GB of RAM — this should please fans, as the original Nokia X only came with 512MB memory, which hindered performance. A 4.3-inch ClearBlack capacitive touchscreen display runs at 800 by 480 pixels, and the back houses a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED, while a secondary VGA camera sits on the front. And as previously rumored, the X2 comes with a new dedicated hardware Home button. Software capabilities are offered by the same forked style of Android where Google services are replaced with Nokia (and well, Microsoft) solutions.]]>
Ahh. Microsoft’s way of making money off of Android. Seems like a smart decision business wise at this point. $135 seems like a fair price for this phone as well.
Cool video and $135 outright is cheap! Can’t wait to see how this does when it hits the market in July.
