PCPro the UK website just put out a fantastic list of their suggestions for improvements that Microsoft could make for Windows 8.

Here are some of the ones I agree with:

Backup shouldn’t just be simple, it should be transparent.

As soon as someone switches on a new computer, Windows 8 should be on the lookout for key files and making sure that if disaster strikes the user won’t lose them.

That doesn’t mean copying the data to another part of the disk, but whisking it off to an encrypted online storage vault coupled with a prompt to create a safe area on an external drive.

  • The online backup options are nice with new Dell computers but many of them have a small limit like 2GB free which isn’t bad for documents but if someone takes a lot of high resolution pictures as well as video then they would be out of luck without an additional expense.

  • I agree Microsoft needs to address the issue of backups. I always hated Windows’s backup features and never entirely trusted them. I hate having to use 3rd party apps or backup my files manually.
