ProKASE for Microsoft Surface hits Kickstarter

Outside of Microsoft’s own stylish Touch and Type covers, there isn’t much in the way of protecting cover cases for the Surface RT and Pro. That’s where ProKASE comes into play, a new kickstarter project that hopes to gain enough support to take their idea and make it a reality.

ProKASE is a leather or suede case (depending on your choice) that covers the entirety of your Surface Pro and if they get the project off the ground, your pledge of $79 or more can snag you one. Too pricey for a case? There is also a $59 pledge option that will snag you the same case, at least appearance wise.

What’s the difference than? The main version of the ProKASE will include a built-in hub that has two extra USB ports and two extra microSD card readers, though they will send you a version without it for a bit cheaper as already mentioned.

The team behind ProKASE hopes to have the product eventually retail for over $100, so this could be your opportunity to snag one for a cheaper price.

In order to get the project off the ground, the campaign is looking for $55,000 in total pledges. Right now it has only grabbed $2,158 from 21 backers, but there is still 28 days left to go.

Is the ProKASE worth it, or not?

It depends on what you are looking for. If you are satisfied with the protection that the touch/type covers already provide, the only reason to get this would be if you find it adds to the look of your Surface.

Personally, I don’t find them that gorgeous, but to each their own. It is worth noting though that the cases work just find with or without the touch cover, so that means you can still use your cover accessory alongside the ProKASE.

For those wondering a bit about the folks putting together this case, it is supposedly made up of a group of engineers that formed the company K.A.S.E. These engineers note that they have mainly involved with the biomedical industry and have been learning/studying product fabrication for four years.
