Setting up Twitter in Windows 8

Connection Process The best way to set up a Twitter account is to connect the People app to it. People app acts a social hub in Windows 8, providing the latest updates of your social contacts.

Select Twitter Service in People App

Launch the People app from the Start Screen. The welcome screen of the app prompts you to connect to various online services. Select Twitter from the list of services.

Connection Initiation

An inline webpage frame launches, which initiates the connection to Twitter. The so loaded page informs you what you can do and what data you share after you connect your Twitter account to Windows 8. Click on “Connect” button to move on.

Twitter Authentication

The resulting page asks for Twitter credentials. Also, Twitter informs in this page what account data you are permitting Microsoft to access. In a way, this page acts as the final confirmation from Twitter. If you are fine with the permissions being given to Microsoft, then enter the credentials and click “Log In”. Twitter will authenticate the credentials.

Connection Process Complete

The final page of the setup informs you that the connection is successful. Behind the scenes, the People app would already have begun to fetch your Twitter contacts and their details.

Twitter Data Used by People App

People app has following 3 sections that show different data from your Twitter account.
  •   People Section lists all the contacts from your Twitter account. Selecting a contact from the list will show their profile information.
  •  What’s New Section shows the timeline of your Twitter account – latest tweets of the people you follow. You can favorite their tweets, retweet them, or reply to them.
  •  Me Section lists the details of your Twitter profile, your latest tweets, and latest notifications like if somebody mentioned you in his tweet, new followers, if somebody has retweeted your tweet.
