Steve Ballmer’s Devices And Services Concepts Starts Gaining Momentum

Microsoft CEO has occasionally been criticized in the media for his apparent lack of leadership qualities. But while there is little room to argue that Ballmer often leaves things too late, he seems to have chalked out a plan for the company.

And his vision to see Microsoft as a devices and services company is gradually gaining traction.

The head of Redmond wants to see the technology titan go beyond the software concept it embraced all those years ago, and instead focus on becoming a company that develops many other products, besides just software applications.

And the company’s financial results for Q2 2013 reveal a substantial growth in demand for Microsoft services (and products too). Office 365, for example, is fast becoming a very appealing solution for enterprises and organizations around the world.

Kevin Turner, chief operating officer at Microsoft noted in the press release:

“We continue to see strong demand for our enterprise products and services, with more and more customers making long-term commitments to the Microsoft platform. The growing adoption of our cloud services, including Office 365, Windows Azure and Dynamics CRM, continues to demonstrate our leadership position in the cloud.”

Ballmer also chimed in on today’s results, saying that he is confident that Microsoft will boost revenues in the months to come as the company gears up to launch the new Windows 8.1 along with second generation Surface tablets:

“We are working hard to deliver compelling new devices and high value experiences from Microsoft and our partners in the coming months, including new Windows 8.1 tablets and PCs.

Our new products and the strategic realignment we announced last week position us well for long-term success, as we focus our energy and resources on creating a family of devices and services for individuals and businesses that empower people around the globe at home, at work and on the go, for the activities they value the most.”

The next year or so represents one of the most vitally important periods for Microsoft, as the technology titan will not just bring to market several high-profile products, but also enhance its services. And this is without even talking about the massive reorganization that the company is about to embark on.
