The second generation Surface tablets will start making their ways onto hands of consumers in a few weeks. Microsoft has confirmed that it plans to start shipping the devices starting October 22.
Another thing the company has also confirmed is that it is indeed working on several projects and testing new tablet sizes for its Surface line up of slates. The idea is to expand the product line and offer these devices with different feature sets at all price points.
Now Panos Panay, head of the Surface team talked about this in a recent event in Seattle.
According to this report over at GeekWire, the senior executive confirmed that the technology titan is working on new tablet sizes with multiple display aspect ratios, although he stopped shy of commenting on the possibility of an 8-inch Surface sporting Microsoft’s logo:
“We have a lot of great things that we are thinking about and working on, and there are multiple aspect ratios and sizes and awesome things to come from Surface. That’s the best answer I have for you.”
Well, it’s a great answer Panos, but some pointers about the Surface Mini would have been great.
According to (plenty of) previous reports on the matter, Redmond is preparing a smaller Surface slate that is to be powered by a Qualcomm processor. The affordable device is expected to run Windows RT 8.1, the same operating system that works its magic on the recently announced Surface 2 model.
Launch of this 7 or 8 inch device is reportedly slated for early 2014.
I’d love to get a 13.3 (or maybe a 12.5 inch) surface pro. the bigger chassis would finally allow to fit the stylus inside the device as well as getting a couple of new ports (2nd USB 3.0 and Full size Sd Card slot) and put a bigger battery inside (60-70 Wh?) and of course a little resolution bump up to 3200×1800 (QHD+)
Pretty much sums up my Surface wishlist.
Bigger!
