Surface Pro to launch February 9th, new touch covers and wedge mouse as well

The wait for the Microsoft Surface Pro is nearly over it seems. Today Microsoft’s Panos Panay took to the Microsoft blog to reveal that the Windows 8 Pro-based Surface will go on sale for $899 for the 64GB version. As expected there will also be an 128GB version.

The news confirms both models have the Surface Pen stylus but neither will come with a keyboard, instead you’ll have to pay separately. As for the “meat” of the device, it will be powered by a 3rd gen Intel Core i5 processor with 4GB of RAM. Additional specs will include a 10.6-inch 1920×1080 resolution display, a 42W-h battery, a mini DisplayPort, and all the other ports found on the Surface RT.

So where will the Surface Pro sell? Through Microsoft’s stores and website, Best Buy and Staples. The blog also mentions Canada will have a “number of locations” carrying the tablet as well.

Outside of the news of the Surface Pro, Microsoft also announced there were several new touch cover designs on their way, with the ones in the picture above being “limited editions” that will be offered for $129.99 and sold in all eight of the markets that the Surface RT is currently sold in.

Other news include Microsoft’s plans to expand the surface to Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland and Sweden.

Okay so new touch covers, Surface Pro and expanded markets– anything else?

Last but not least, Microsoft says they will now carry the 64GB Surface RT as a standalone offering for those that don’t want the bundled black touch cover. They also will release a special edition of the Wedge Mouse, specifically with the Surface in mind.

The new Surface Edition Wedge Mouse is designed to compliment the Surface experience according to MS, and includes four-way touch scrolling and a finish that is similar to Surface’s VaporMg casing. The mouse will go on sale February 9th for $69.95.
So what do you think, are you excited to get your hands on the Surface RT or not?
