A wise man once said that if you don’t love the device you own, then own the device you love! Well, actually, I just said that. But with Windows 8.1 out of the gates, hardware vendors are bringing out their new and updated solutions left and right.
Point being, soon the market will be flooded with PCs and tablets powered by the new operating system at all price points, and many of these new devices are optimized for use with Windows 8.1.
After Panasonic and Dell announced details and preorders for their respective tablets earlier today, Toshiba has also joined the party with the Encore 8 — a Windows powered slate that has just now been made available for preorder in the United States.
This is part of the new Bay Trail tablet wave. Intel’s latest Atom solution is finding place on a variety of devices, thanks to its combination of power and price.
The slate features an 8-inch IPS screen, with a more than serviceable resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels. Processing duties are handled by a 1.8GHz Atom Z3740 CPU, coupled with 2GB of RAM and Intel HD Graphics chip.
Internal storage comes in at 32GB, but can be increased via the included microSD card slot. Windows 8.1 is offered right out of the box, and the same goes for Microsoft Office 2013 Home & Student.
Toshiba has also bundled in two cameras (8 megapixel back, 2 megapixel front), microHDMI, and microUSB 2.0 along with 802.11 b/g/n WiFi connectivity.
The lightweight tablet only weighs 1.1 pounds (or 0.49 kg for that matter), and when you take into account the sheer amazing price of $330, it becomes a rather enticing package. You can preorder yours online if you are in the United States.
