In what is possibly the first official mention of the marketing name of the Windows 11 22H2 update by Microsoft, we have an idea of what the company wants to call this upcoming release.

This first major update to Windows 11, which is in development under the codename Sun Valley 2, is scheduled for a September launch.

In the lead-up to it, Microsoft has started refreshing the marketing material and promotional elements to let folks know that a new update will soon be in town. This refresh has given us a look at what Redmond plans to label this release as.

The company recently refreshed the Get Started app with a new greeting on Windows 11 22H2.

And users were quick to notice the change:

Windows 11 2022 Update Name

As the image above shows, the software titan calls this new release the Windows 11 2022 Update, which I suppose is a reasonable name considering all the backend changes the company has made with regard to development.

Redmond now—finally—plans to service Windows 11 with one feature update per year. It stands to reason that it would call its new releases with a simple name denoting the year they launched. This is a far cry from the days of the Anniversary Update, Creators Update, and other such puzzling names.

Although the name supposedly has become less confusing, the overall fate of Windows 11 remains unclear.

Rumors abound that Microsoft plans to launch major versions of its operating system every three years and, in the meantime, ship new features and improvements to Windows 11 in waves that it will call Moments.

Hopefully, the company will clarify the roadmap soon, ideally around the time the Windows 11 2022 Update makes its way out next month.

Any thoughts here?
