“Yes OEMs, with their Microsoft Surface tablet, Microsoft really did just go to war with you” I quote from said article:

I think that for Microsoft, the Surface is the just beginning of the big push into hardware. I believe that they are being politically delicate about it because it is (understandably) a sensitive issue for OEM’s. If this push sees moderate success, I believe they will make a Windows Phone and one or two Windows Desktop devices. Why the heck not? Once you start building your own stuff, why stop at tablets and phones? Microsoft is a publicly traded company – there would be no rational reason to walk away from potential profits if they didn’t have to.
So here we are on October the second and now the internet is no abuzz with speculation that…wait for it…

Microsoft might be building their own phone.

LOL WPCentral among others are now reporting that Redmond may be building their own premier Windows Phone. They give a bunch of possible reasons why this is happening:
  • Microsoft wanted to go the Google Nexus path
  • They aren’t happy with Lumia
  • Plan B in case the launch doesn’t go well
Let me tell you why it’s happening.

Sorry, I know it’s not becoming but I love it when I see the future. Maybe Amobidamus will be my new name. 🙂 P.S. The clock is ticking for these bloggers to be AMAZED when Microsoft reveal their reference desktop PC. Tick Tock.]]>

  • Several things. I did not think that MS was going to do this (especailly at the time you predicted it). Not that I didnt think they were building something internally. I definitely thought they have a plan B. I just didnt think they would be going for it so soon. I am still under the impression that they will give current OEMs 6 months from Windows Phone 8 launch to make a dent before going this route. That being said, their recent hook up with HTC seems like they have already given Nokia their chance to make that dent. Personally, I think that Windows Phone 7 was a stop gap measure and should not be considered as Nokia having their chance. So I guess we will see.
On your PC prediction. That seems like a likely possibility. I will one up you. However I am not willing to call it a prediction yet. I think MS is out to beat Apple to the TV market. Bear with me on this. My guess would be that they produce a one peice model in probably 32″, 42″ and maybe 52″ consumer versions as well as even larger Professional models. the recent aquisititions make this a likely thing. And a PC in place of a TV if done right can be a great thing. It would need built in kinnect for remoteless control of the TV as well. If done right and sold for the right price, this could sell well.
