The big day is here. Or will be, Monday. And that is because Microsoft has officially announced the Windows 10 April 2018 Update, finally confirming both the name and the rollout.

Nice name, by the way!

This major new version of the operating system had quite a storied development process.

Redmond has been testing this next feature update for the OS under the codename of Redstone 4 since August 31, 2017. And from that time, the company has released 24 Insider Preview builds to the Fast ring of the program — without actually providing any details.

Details like what it will be called, and what features it is set to bring.

Of course, we have a fair idea of all this, thanks to the preview builds. But as far as the name is concerned, it is clear that this was a change that took place at the last minute. Previously, this version was referenced as the Spring Creators Update.

Both in and out of Microsoft.

Speaking of leaks, we also know that the company will officially begin rollout of the April 2018 Update on May 8, as part of the Patch Tuesday cycle. So, more or less a month after it was delayed.

Those that use the Upgrade Assistant tool or the Media Creation Tool will have access to the final bits on Monday, April 30. We’ll be sure to take quick looks at how you can do that, and what this new release brings to the table in the next two articles.

These are exciting times!
