Windows 10 Build 17040 Available For Download

Microsoft has just released the Windows 10 Insider Preview Fast ring build for this week, with Windows 10 build 17040 now available for users enrolled in this channel of the preview program.

It is the first once since last Wednesday when the software titan launched build 17035.

As detailed, this new releases packs a small selection of new features, none of which can really be termed major. But they are new features nevertheless, and that’s what matters this early in the development cycle of this next version of the OS, known as Redstone 4.

So, what’s in?

Build 17040 HDR Settings

For starters, Redmond has finally baked in the ability to adjust SDR content on HDR displays, and Windows now lets users define exactly how bright SDR content appears when running in HDR mode. It is one of the several HDR image quality improvements Microsoft is planning in the operating system.

The Ease of Access Settings section now houses new cursor, pointer, and touch feedback sections.

Build 17040 Shape Write Keyboard

Speaking of touch, this build also brings along a few touch keyboard improvements too, including shape write with wide touch keyboard.

Several enhancements are also reserved for the handwriting panel, ranging from improved insertion gesture to a new commit gesture, and improved button layout for the Chinese (Simplified) language, similar to the one that arrived with the previous build.

This Redstone 4 preview of the next version of Windows 10 is now available for download for Insiders that have their devices enrolled in the Fast ring of the Windows Insider Program.

If you are, then simply fire up Windows Update to get access to this new build.
