Hello, hello? Can you hear me? Surface Andromeda may have been delayed, but new developments show that Microsoft is still very active on the software side of things.

In order to make this device a reality, and ensure that the groundwork is laid in terms of apps.

There is no doubt that the Andromeda project still lives on behind Redmond walls, but one of the main reasons why the company pushed back the release of this device was the lack of distinctly unique applications for this innovative little machine.

Dual screen machine, that is.

Anyway, as reported on a popular Italian blog, Microsoft has just moved one step closer to diversifying its app offering on Windows 10 for Andromeda, with the release of the Windows 10 Mobile Phone app on the desktop operating system.

This is how it looks:

Windows 10 Phone App

Now, you may be asking, why release a phone app on the PC.

There are two reasons for this.

First and foremost, Windows 10 PCs that offer LTE capability out the box now have the ability to make and receive calls. Sure, this is not the most convenient thing to do, calling from a large device, but the important thing is that the functionality is available.

And secondly, with talk that Andromeda may also come with telephony capabilities, despite not having a phone form factor per se, an app like this would allow users to make phone calls.

At least, when in one of the many form factors and modes that the dual screen Andromeda is set to sport.

Word is that this app is available right now for Insiders. And while it is limited to these testers for the time being, a general rollout is very much a possibility by the time Redstone 5 launches this fall.

As for Andromeda, it too may see daylight in late 2019.

That is, if everything goes according to plan.
