Otherwise known as Redstone 5. Looks like development has been humming along at a nice pace for Microsoft, as the company has confirmed the official name of Windows 10 version 1809.

It will be titled, the October 2018 Update.

To the surprise of no one.

The software titan officially confirmed the name in a blog post showing off some of the shiny new Windows 10 PCs that were announced at IFA 2018 in Berlin this week. And the name continues the trend that was started earlier this year.

With the April 2018 Update.

The version number of this next major update to the operating system will still be version 1809, which denotes the month the RTM build will be finalized. That is to say, this month, September. The general rollout will, in all probability, commence next month in October.

That said, Redmond has not attached an exact release date to this announcement.

Furthermore, the version number will not be the same for other variants of this update. The Xbox One consoles, as an example, are set to receive version 1810.

Nevertheless, even though the October 2018 Update focuses primarily on stability, it does come with a number of exciting new features like the Your Phone app that will allow you to interact with the photo gallery on your handset, as well as send and receive SMS messages, and make and take phone calls.

Then there is also the dark themed File Explorer, one of the more demanded of features.

However, the most awaited feature, Sets, was postponed during testing. The company plans to add it back in with the next major update after this, codenamed 19H1.

All in all, we seem to be on track here.

The second big update of the year for Windows 10 has taken another step towards release.

It has an official name to go with it.
