Sign me up, Scotty! Microsoft has been working to streamline Windows 10 updates these past few months, and the results of these efforts are now out in the open.
Not only did the company marked the end of delta updates earlier this month, it is now aiming for an updated design that creates a compact update package for easier and faster deployment — particularly for business and enterprise users.
Basically, Redmond is all set to slash the size of these monthly refreshes, and this new strategy will be in place with the upcoming Windows 10 version 1809.
Which previously went by the codename of Redstone 5.
Microsoft engineer Maliha Qureshi explained that this new update type is not only smaller in size, it has been designed to be easier for IT professionals to manage at their end. Basically, it offers multiple benefits to the current types of updates.
Namely Full, Delta and Express.
Organizations will benefit a number of different ways with this new direction, including the ability to get full updates from Windows Server Update Service (WSUS) or from the Microsoft Update Catalog, while also saving network bandwidth due to their smaller size.
They will also no longer be required to monitor the update status and history of their devices to determine which devices are eligible.
In addition, major versions of Windows 10 will be 40% more efficient while updating, thanks to more backend computing of the optimal differentials required to initiate downloads.
Of course, these are just the latest changes.
The software titan had already announced that it was looking to fix Windows Update so that your PC would not reboot at times when you are busy.
All these changes are coming with Windows 10 version 1809, and will be a big part of the next major release of the operating system as well, currently known as 19H1.
