We return to our regularly scheduled programming. Action returned to the world of Windows 11 preview releases last week after a brief hiatus due to flighting issues the team experienced.

And now, less than a week after the arrival of the previous build, we have a new preview in the form of build 22616 taking to the skies.

As Microsoft notes in the announcement post, this release mainly contains fixes and improvements and no new features. But that is to be expected at this stage of the operating system’s development, as the company prepares for the launch of the next feature update later in the year.

In terms of changes, we first have an attempted fix for the “Show hidden icons” flyout in the system tray that was not appearing for some Insiders.

Secondly, we have a neat new Controller Bar feature that Microsoft has designed for people who play gamers on their PC with an Xbox Controller.

The rest of the build mainly contains fixes and improvements, the details of which can be gathered from the link above.

As a reminder, Microsoft confirms that the build watermark at the lower right-hand corner of the desktop is no longer present in this build. The company has said that the watermark will return to Insiders in a future build.

Speaking of the future, Redmond again prominently highlights that the Dev and Beta channels will soon be splitting off. While there is still no indication when this will happen, it should definitely be a surprise for folks hoping to stay on for the more stable builds of Windows 11 22H2.

This version, of course, is tracking for an RTM status very soon, likely before the end of the month.

For this reason, the company recommends that Insiders switch or change channels from Dev to Beta if they so desire.
