Windows 7, 8, Server 2008, Server 2012 and Windows RT Updates Coming Tuesday

When it comes to keeping your computer running in the best possible shape, whether for business use or just as a home machine, it is important to keep up with the latest software updates. When it comes to updates for Microsoft, most OS changes are done on the second Tuesday of each month, something we all know as “Patch Tuesday”.

It looks like Microsoft is breaking tradition though, as they are now scheduling a series of updates that will rollout for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows RT, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2012. There is also going to be an update rollup for Windows Server 2012 Essentials.

So what’s up with this set of OS updates? For Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, the update says it is supposed to offer improved features, performance and is a prerequisite for Internet Explorer 10. This is good news, as it could mean that IE 10 is FINALLY just around the corner for those still rocking Windows 7.

For those with a newer-generation of Windows, we actually don’t know much about what these updates are about. Simply the update information that can be found says it will “resolve issues in Windows”, what those issues are how severe is still unknown.

Anyhow, be prepared to snag the latest updates next Tuesday, though for most of us, it will be done automatically unless we’ve set our machines up to require manual installation.
